Chico & Rita’s film director Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal not stop to talk, after reaping awards for many festivals has been nominated for the Oscar 2012 in Hollywood in the category of Best Animated Film, held on February 26th in Los Angeles.

According to Javier Mariscal, our more international graphic designer and co-author of the film, Chico & Rita is an adult animated film that tells a “love story” between two people, “but also between Havana and New York” in the context of the Cuban Revolution, just at a time when “Cuban rhythms night clubs took a clean sweep of the United States.”

With music from artists such as Bebo Valdés and Estrella Morente, Chico & Rita tells the story of a pianist and a singer living a destructive relationship, on a project that has taken seven years to the director of Belle Epoque and the creator of Cobi (the mascot of Barcelona ’92).

In 1992, Fernando Trueba, was the first Spanish man to win the coveted statuette for Best Foreign Language Film with Belle Époque, a funny and surreal portrait of the Spanish Civil War with a very young Penelope Cruz. We hope to have the same luck with Chico & Rita!
Musical? Animation? Just a love story and a wonder to enjoy the film.
