La Mercè (Festes de la Mercè 2014 From September 18th to 24th) is the festival of the city and a showcase of Catalan traditions, also a unique opportunity to see in action the best street performers and enjoy good free concerts.

Legend has it that the night of September 24, 1218, the Virgin appeared simultaneously to King James I, and San Pedro Nolasco Penyafort San Ramon. The three were asked that would create an order of monks dedicated to saving Christians imprisoned by the Saracens. Those were times of religious war. Centuries later in 1687, Barcelona suffered a plague of locusts, and placed itself in the hands of the Virgin of La Mercè. Once the plague had been overcome, the Council of the City named her patron saint of Barcelona.

The last blast of summer before the autumn starts, the streets are filled with music and joy for all. La Mercè is the festival of festivals, where, in just a few days there are hundreds of activities like these:

• BAM(Barcelona Musical Action): to hear new sounds
• Mercè Arts de Carrer (MAC): circus arts, dance and street arts.
• Festival of tradition: human castles, bigheads, giants and all the festive beasts of the city.
• The Fire Festival: all kinds of sparks from the musical fireworks to the Fire Run…

La Mercè (este año del 19 al 24 de setiembre) es la Fiesta Mayor de la ciudad de Barcelona. Un escaparate de las tradiciones catalanas y una fantástica oportunidad para disfrutar de buenos conciertos gratuitos y ver en acción a grandes artistas.

Cuenta la leyenda que la noche del 24 de septiembre de 1218, la Virgen se apareció simultáneamente al rey Jaime I, a San Pedro Nolasco y a San Ramón de Penyafort. A los tres les pidió que creasen una orden de monjes dedicados a salvar cristianos encarcelados por los sarracenos. Eran tiempos de guerra religiosa. Siglos más tarde, en 1687, Barcelona sufrió una plaga de langostas y se puso en manos de la Virgen de la Mercè. Acabada la plaga, el Consejo de la Ciudad la nombró patrona de Barcelona.

Hoy, La Mercè es un evento que ocupa festivamente un gran número de espacios públicos de la ciudad. Los tradicionales enanos, gigantes y cabezudos, los ‘Castells’ o los diablos y bestias que salen a pasear por la ciudad. Las calles se llenan con música y alegría para todos. Hoy, La Mercè es el festival de festivales que concentra en pocos días centenares de actividades:

• Barcelona Acció Musical BAM: conciertos para todos los gustos y nuevas propuestas musicales.
• Barcelona Arts de Carrer: circo, danza, teatro con artistas que actúan al lado del público
• La Festa de la Tradició: castellers, cabezudos, gigantes y todo el bestiario festivo de la ciudad.
• La Festa del Foc: chispas de todo tipo, desde el Piromusical hasta el Correfoc…

Y un largo etcétera que suele incluir más de 500 actividades para todos los gustos que hace de La Mercè la fiesta de las mil caras.

The concept of Piknic Electronik is much more than a picnic, a music and entertainment proposal native of Montreal (Canada) and this year has come to Barcelona.

Piknic Electronik Barcelona is an event held in the Jardins Joan Brossa (where before was the amusement park of Montjuïc) every Sunday from July to September. These Sundays from 13:00 to 22:00 and for 11 € entry you can enjoy this wonderful initiative!

This is a traditional meeting as usual and conventional as always but at the same time as cosmopolitan and eclectic as the electronic music. Barcelona Piknic Electronik is an innovative event that brings electronic music and culture worldwide. Ecologically picnic sustainable source of values ​​and a friendly environment within the city.

Besides music and picnic areas prepared for the festival, they also want to promote activities for children (free entry for children under twelve years) with games, inflatables, creative recycling workshops or initiation activities to skateboard.

You can bring food from home or go through the various bars and buy it, everything is provided! But you can not bring alcohol to the site, if you want a beer, you will find it there!

El concepto de Piknic Electronik es mucho más que un picnic. Se trata de una propuesta de música y ocio originaria de Montreal (Canadá) y que este año ha llegado a Barcelona. ¿Quieres disfrutar del mejor Piknic de tu vida?

Piknic Electronik Barcelona es un evento que se celebra en los Jardins Joan Brossa (dónde antes estaba el parque de atracciones de Montjuïc) todos los domingos de junio, julio, agosto (solo dia 4 y 11) y setiembre. Éstos domingos, de 13:00 a 22:00 y por 11€ entrada podemos disfrutar de ésta magnifica iniciativa!

Un encuentro tan habitual y tradicional como un picnic de los de siempre pero, al mismo tiempo, tan cosmopolita y ecléctico como la música electrónica. Piknic Electronik Barcelona es un acontecimiento innovador que acerca la música electrónica y su cultura a todo el mundo. Además conserva la esencia del picnic ecológico, sostenible y fuente de valores respetuosos con el medio ambiente dentro de la ciudad.

A parte de música y zonas habilitadas para el picnic, el festival ha querido potenciar las actividades para los más pequeños (entrada gratis hasta los doce años) con juegos, inflables, talleres de reciclaje creativo o actividades de iniciación al skateboard.

Puedes traerte la comida de casa o pasar por los diferentes ‘chiringuitos’ y comprarla, todo está previsto! Eso si, no se pueden llevar bebidas alcohólicas al recinto, si quieres un cerveza, allí la encontrarás!
